Client: Corporate - National Food & Drink Distributor

Role: Business Development Manager

Background

 

Our client were looking to launch two new distribution service products, both in niche markets and were looking for an industry experienced Business Development Manager to support the launch. We were the exclusive recruiter on this one.

Summary

We initially met with the client to understand the role, the company and the reasons behind the new opportunity. We reviewed the prepared job specification and agreed some minor updates, before agreeing our planned approach. As standard Business Development Manager roles are very broad, and the client were looking for candidates with sector experience, we took a search only approach using the specific requirements as the basis of our search. We provided the candidates with 12 CV’s and our renowned detailed comments and rationale for selection for each candidate. 6 candidates were selected for interview by the client, and we scheduled the meetings and sent invitations out to candidates and relevant client contacts. 3 candidates were invited back for a second interview ‘presentation’ which we again worked with the client to schedule. The client then had a very tough choice as 2 candidates were almost inseperable. An offer was made to the successful candidate, but was declined! We then offered the role to the other candidate who gladly accepted!

Client: SME - Insurance Consultancy - Claims Specialist

Background

 

Our client is a local micro-consultancy, who were looking for some administrative support to provide a basis for expanding their business. The additional requirement though was someone who would be potentially be open to developing into a fee earner type role as either a Business Analyst or a Project Manager in the future. We were the exclusive recruiter on this one.

Summary

For this one, as it was a one-man band, we provided our full suite of services, starting with the creation of the job specification on the candidates behalf, which we obtained approval for before sharing. The client were looking for a quick turnaround so, in addition to our usual search only approach, we advertised the role as well. We quickly screened a number of candidates, accepting CV’s and discussing the candidates with the client before arranging interviews for 5 shortlisted candidates. We scheduled the first round of phone/video call interviews with the client, before inviting 3 candidates to a face to face interview for the second round. There were 2 stand out candidates for this one, an offer was made but rejected, and the same happened with the second candidate… so we were back to square one!

 

We suggested updating the wording on the job specification to try and aim at more experienced candidates, which the client agreed. As time was even more precious, we re-advertised and searched, providing our detailed screening process for 20 candidates for the client in 2 days. Discussing the candidates, we agreed a shortlist and scheduled phone/video call interviews, providing rationale to the rejected candidates as is our custom. Again, phone interviews were held, candidates were shortlisted an offer was made… and accepted… but then rejected!! The client decided to hold fire on recruitment and, although they insisted on payment, we didn’t charge them anything for our services. No win, no fee where Finstech are the exclusive recruiter on a project!
